The Challenge
Millard Law’s office sits on Leith Walk, just along from Pilrig Street and close to the new Balfour Street tram stop. It’s one of Edinburgh’s busiest thoroughfares — constant traffic, pedestrians, and Scottish weather all year round.
The shop front’s original grey paint had taken a beating. It was faded, cracked in places, and had picked up graffiti over time. For a professional legal practice, the frontage is the first impression clients see. It needed to look the part.
We were brought in to strip back the damage and restore the exterior to a clean, professional standard — using a paint system tough enough to handle one of Edinburgh’s highest-traffic streets.
Our Approach
Surface Preparation
We started by filling and sanding the entire exterior surface to remove the cracked, damaged paint and create a smooth base. Graffiti was treated and sealed before any new paint went on. The pavement and neighbouring shopfronts were protected throughout.
Paint Choice: Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Gloss
For a shop front on Leith Walk, the paint needs to handle constant exposure — rain, UV, traffic fumes, and potential vandalism. We chose Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Gloss: a high-performance paint designed for mixed materials (wood, metal, masonry, and plastic). It’s touch-dry in 30 minutes, recoatable in one hour, and includes built-in mould and fungal resistance.
We repainted in the original matching grey to maintain consistency with the practice’s branding. Two coats over primer for a durable, weather-resistant finish.
The Result
The shop front looks brand new. Clean lines, even colour, no trace of the graffiti or cracking that was there before. It’s the kind of finish that reflects the professionalism of the business inside — and it’s built to last against Edinburgh’s weather and Leith Walk’s daily traffic.
