The Challenge
This modern farmhouse on the outskirts of Edinburgh — close to the Pentland Hills — had great space and natural light, but the interiors were due a complete refresh. The owners wanted the whole house redecorated in time for Christmas.
The brief was all about balance. Most rooms would stay light and open with soft neutral walls. But in key rooms, the clients wanted to go bold — deep greens, rich reds, and carefully chosen wallpaper to create warmth and personality.
With a firm pre-Christmas deadline and every room in the house on the list, this was a large-scale project that required careful planning, a full team, and no wasted days.
Our Approach
Colour Consultation and Planning
We worked closely with the clients on colour selection. The base colour for most rooms was Farrow & Ball’s Wevet — a soft, warm off-white that enhances natural light. For the feature walls: Beverly (deep green), Green Smoke (sophisticated green), and Picture Gallery Red (warm, rich red). The hallway’s existing white wood panelling was repainted in Dead Salmon — a subtle, dusty pink that added warmth and depth.
Preparation and Painting
Every surface was prepared properly — filling, sanding, priming — before any colour went on. With bold, deep colours like these, surface preparation is everything. We applied two full coats to every wall, with clean, sharp colour transitions. All furniture was moved and sheeted. Floors were covered throughout. We worked one area at a time, cleaning up each workspace at the end of every day.
Wallpaper and Detail Work
Selected feature walls were wallpapered in a clean, contemporary pattern. The client had chosen a free-match, paste-the-wall paper — a smart choice that simplified alignment and ensured a consistent finish across larger walls.
Meeting the Deadline
We deployed our full team to complete the work on schedule. Every room was treated with the same level of care and attention — no corners cut, no rushing. The house was ready for Christmas.
The Result
The farmhouse has been completely transformed. The neutral Wevet base keeps rooms light, airy, and spacious, while the deep feature colours bring warmth, drama, and real personality to key spaces. The hallway panelling in Dead Salmon is a particular standout — it gives the entrance an immediate sense of warmth and character.
Eight working days, every room in the house, completed on time for Christmas — and not a drop of paint where it shouldn’t be.
