Living Room Panelling Transformation – New Build Tenement, Edinburgh
This project took us to a modern tenement in Edinburgh—one of those newer builds with a solid layout but walls that felt a bit plain. The living room had plenty of space and light, but the owners wanted to bring in more depth, warmth, and character.
They were after something that felt more personal than the standard new-build finish, so we suggested adding classic wall panelling with a rich, contemporary colour. It’s a simple change on paper, but it completely transformed the space—turning a blank canvas into a living room full of style and personality.
The Brief
The clients wanted something more distinctive than standard new-build décor—something with depth, texture, and a timeless edge.
Our Process
Wall Preparation
-
Stripped existing wallpaper
-
Filled and sanded for a smooth surface
-
Sealed with Zinsser Gardz to neutralise residual paste and prep the surface for paint
Panel Installation
-
Installed custom wall panelling to add architectural interest and dimension
Painting & Finishing
-
Painted walls and panelling in Farrow & Ball’s Treron, a deep olive green for a bold, cohesive look
-
Sanded and refinished all existing woodwork, using an off-white topcoat for clean contrast
The Result
The finished space feels refined, contemporary, and full of personality. The green panelling adds a sense of depth and style, while the off-white trim keeps the room bright and balanced.
Why It Works
This project shows how thoughtful colour pairing and simple architectural additions can elevate even the most standard new build interior. The result is a living room that feels tailored, elegant, and on-trend—completely unique to the clients.
