Tailor Made MDF Corner Bench and Shelving
Lennox Street sits in Canonmills, just a short walk from Inverleith Park and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. It’s a quiet, well-connected part of the city, with period flats and character homes that lend themselves beautifully to bespoke, built-in features.
We’d already worked on this client’s home before, and this time they asked us to finish a newly built corner bench and shelving unit by A.J. Milne Bespoke Carpentry. Designed for both style and practicality, the bench includes hidden storage under a solid oak seat, with matching shelving above to make the most of the corner space. Our job was to prepare, paint, and finish it so it would blend seamlessly with the rest of the room.
Craftsmanship Meets Function
The bench, made from MDF with a solid oak seat, includes a lift-up top for hidden storage. Ally from A.J. Milne also installed matching built-in shelves above, adding both function and flow to the corner.
Flawless Finish
We began with detailed prep: filling, sanding, and priming all surfaces using Tikkurila Otex Adhesion Primer. After a second sanding, we painted with Tikkurila Everal Aqua Matt [10]—matched precisely to the wall colour (Farrow & Ball’s Au Lait) for a fully integrated look.
Finishing Touches
To complement the space, we treated the oak bench top with a custom Osmo Oil blend, matched to other timber pieces in the client’s kitchen. It tied everything together with a warm, natural finish.
A Thoughtful Transformation
The final result is a clean, functional, and cohesive addition to the home—crafted and finished with care from start to finish.
