Project Showcase: Tailor Made MDF Corner Bench and Shelving
At Lennox Street, Edinburgh, our team had the privilege of working with a client to paint a newly built stunning and highly functional tailor-made MDF corner bench and some built-in shelves above the bench, beautifully crafted by A.J. Milne Bespoke Carpentry in Edinburgh.
The Bench Design
- The bench, made from MDF with a solid oak sitting top, features an opening top that allows for convenient storage within the bench itself.
- Ally, from A.J. Milne Bespoke Carpentry, demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship in not only crafting the bench but also in creating additional built-in shelving above the bench in the same corner, adding both practicality and elegance to the space.
Surface Preparation and Painting
- Our process began with meticulous preparation, which involved filling any holes and gaps, priming all the bare MDF, and delicately sanding the surface using a fine abrasive.
- As part of our commitment to a clean environment, we employed an industrial extractor to minimize the dispersion of any dust particles, ensuring a pristine finish for the project.
- The bench and the shelves above were primed with Tikkurila Otex Adhesion Primer, lightly sanded again, and then painted with Tikkurila Everal Aqua Matt [10].
- The paint color was precisely matched with the walls’ color, Farrow & Ball Au Lait, ensuring a seamless integration of the furniture into the overall aesthetic of the space.
Finishing Touches
- To complement the overall design, the oak worktop received special treatment with a blend of Osmo Oil. The colour was carefully matched with other wood furniture in the kitchen, adding a harmonious touch to the entire setting.
Conclusion
The result of our joint craftsmanship and attention to detail is a beautifully executed project that seamlessly integrates functionality, aesthetics, and personalized design.
