Restoring Weather-Battered Exterior Windows Near the Pentland Hills
Exterior window repair, preparation and repainting for weather-worn timber windows near the Pentland Hills.
The Challenge
The exterior windows had suffered from severe weather exposure, with loose and flaking paint, cracks, holes and damaged timber. One ground-floor sill had a rotten corner, and the work also needed to be carried out safely at height using ladders.
Our Approach
- Four exterior rear-side windows and sills were scraped back to remove loose and flaking paint.
- Cracks were raked out, damaged areas were filled, and the surfaces were sanded smooth.
- The more damaged sections were repaired with professional materials including two-part filler, caulk, acrylic putty and coarse sanding preparation.
- The prepared windows and sills were primed with a white exterior primer and undercoat.
- The woodwork was finished in white Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Satin for a clean, durable and weather-resistant result.
The Result
The finished windows looked cleaner, fresher and better protected. The repair work helped extend the life of the timber windows and improved their weatherproofing without needing full replacement.
