The Challenge
A ground-floor home in Blackhall, near Craigleith Retail Park and Corstorphine Hill. We’d previously completed an interior refresh and the client brought us back for new flooring. They chose a rich dark walnut laminate — durable, low-maintenance, and warm.
As a ground-floor property, the subfloor needed moisture protection before any laminate could go down. And the existing carpet and underlay had to be fully stripped first.
Our Approach
Subfloor Preparation
We stripped the old carpet and underlay completely. The subfloor was mostly solid, but we resolved minor undulations with plywood sheeting and secured any loose boards. A moisture-proof membrane underlay was laid across the entire floor — essential for ground-floor properties.
Laminate Installation
The click-lock laminate was laid plank by plank, cut precisely around door frames and obstacles. Quadrant beading was installed to cover expansion gaps around the perimeter, then painted to match the existing skirting boards for a clean, finished look.
The Result
The transformation was immediate. The dark walnut tones add warmth and richness to the room, tying in perfectly with the freshly painted interiors from our earlier visit. A practical, durable floor that looks and feels premium.
