Laminate Flooring Installation in Edinburgh Blackhall
Project Overview
After successfully completing the interior painting of a ground floor property in Edinburgh’s Blackhall area, our client was so pleased with our work that they entrusted us with installing new flooring throughout their home. The chosen material was a stunning dark walnut wood effect laminate, selected for its rich appearance and durability.
The Challenge
The existing carpet had seen better days and needed complete removal. As with any flooring project, the quality of preparation would determine the final result, so we approached this methodically to ensure a flawless finish.
Our Process
Preparation
- Carpet Removal: We began by carefully removing all existing carpet and underlay throughout the property.
- Subfloor Assessment: We thoroughly examined the floorboards and were pleased to find them in generally good condition—a fortunate starting point.
- Surface Levelling: Despite the good condition of the original floorboards, we needed to address some undulations. We installed plywood sheets to create a perfectly level surface and secured any loose floorboards to eliminate movement.
- Moisture Protection: Being a ground floor property, moisture protection was essential. We installed a high-quality moisture-proof membrane underlay to prevent any ground moisture from reaching the wooden core of the laminate flooring—a crucial step for ensuring the longevity of the installation.
Installation
- Precision Laying: Using the floor’s click-lock system, we methodically installed each plank, ensuring perfect alignment throughout the space.
- Detail Work: We carefully measured and cut around doorways and other architectural features for a seamless look.
- Finishing Touches: Quadrant beading was installed to conceal the necessary expansion gaps around the perimeter. These were then painted to precisely match the existing skirting boards for a cohesive appearance.
