The Challenge
A flat on Montgomery Street in the Leith Walk area, mid-refurbishment. The client — a returning customer who had previously trusted us with exterior painting and their vestibule hallway — needed the newly installed kitchen and utility room brought up to the same high standard as the rest of the property.
Three things made this project technically demanding: the newly fitted kitchen units and floor tiles needed full protection throughout; the wall colour had to be precisely matched to complement the floor tiles; and the utility room offered very limited access, with a fixed washing machine that couldn’t be moved requiring careful work behind it.
Our Approach
Protection
Careful masking and protection of all newly installed kitchen units and floor tiles before any work began — no risk of damage to a freshly fitted kitchen.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces cleaned and prepared. Walls and ceilings sanded where needed for a smooth base. Cracks and holes raked out, filled, and sanded for a flawless finish. Newly plastered areas sealed with Zinsser Gardz to ensure proper paint adhesion.
Colour Matching
Paint mixed to a precise lilac tone using Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt — matched carefully to the floor tiles for a cohesive, considered result.
Detail Work
Particular care taken in the compact utility room, including painting behind the fixed washing machine to ensure a complete, consistent finish throughout.
Throughout, the workspace was kept clean and organised with minimal disruption to the ongoing refurbishment.
The Result
The kitchen and utility room now sit perfectly within the broader refurbishment — fresh, clean, and precisely finished. The lilac wall colour ties in seamlessly with the floor tiles, giving the spaces a cohesive, considered feel that complements the new units throughout.
