Hallway Panelling and Painting Project in Lothian

Bespoke shaker-style hallway panelling and full redecoration, turning a dark narrow corridor into a brighter, more considered entrance.

The Challenge

The hallway had dark blue walls and a long, narrow layout, so the new finish needed careful preparation and a balanced panelling design. The mouldings had to work neatly around doors, corners, the radiator and shorter connecting sections while keeping a consistent height.

Our Approach

  1. Protected the existing timber flooring and surrounding areas before work began.
  2. Raked out, filled, sanded and mechanically prepared the wall surfaces.
  3. Installed approximately 17 metres of bespoke shaker-style wall panelling.
  4. Set the finished panelling height at around 0.9 metres above the skirting.
  5. Added a dado rail to give the panelled section a traditional finished edge.
  6. Primed, undercoated and finished the panelling in white eggshell.
  7. Repainted the upper walls in Dulux Hermitage matt emulsion.

The Result

The completed hallway feels lighter, smarter and more characterful. The crisp white panelling adds architectural detail without overwhelming the narrow space, while the soft Dulux Hermitage walls sit naturally with the existing white doors and warm timber floor.
