The Challenge
A flat on Montgomery Street in Edinburgh’s Hillside area — occupied, with two cats to consider throughout. The client wanted a hallway that felt intentional and design-led: not just a repaint, but a considered split-colour scheme that would give the space real character.
Two things had to be perfect: the cats needed to stay safely inside at all times, and the split line between colours had to be absolutely razor-straight — no drifting, no bleeding, no guesswork.
Our Approach
Preparation and Protection
Floors and surrounding surfaces carefully protected before any work began. Walls prepped and smoothed to ensure an even, consistent base for the final finish.
Setting Out the Split Line
We used a laser level to establish the exact split height across the hallway. Precision taping locked in the line before a single stroke of paint was applied — this is the step that makes the difference between a clean result and a compromised one.
Colour Application
Two Coat Paints colours, chosen to complement each other and suit the property:
La Torre — a deep, grounded tone applied below the split line
Felt Cute — a softer complementary shade above
Tape Removal and Detailing
Tape removed carefully once paint had reached the right stage. Final detailing along the split line and all edges for a crisp, professional result.
Thorough Clean-Up
The home was left tidy and ready to use — as it always is. Throughout, the cats were kept safe and the home respected.
The Result
The hallway now feels warmer, more defined, and genuinely designed. The split-colour effect gives the space structure and visual interest while sitting comfortably within the character of the building.
The laser-level line is sharp, the colours balanced, and the finish exactly what the client had in mind. A space that felt tired now feels intentional.
