Front Door Renovation and Painting in Montpelier Park, Edinburgh
Restoration and exterior painting of a tenement stair door in Montpelier Park, Edinburgh.
The Challenge
This shared stair entrance at a Victorian tenement in Montpelier Park is in regular daily use. The work had to be scheduled around residents’ access and suitable weather conditions, with thorough preparation across the door and frame for long-term durability.
Our Approach
- Preparation. Loose paint scraped, cracks and holes raked out and filled, surfaces sanded back and cleaned thoroughly.
- Fit adjustment. The bottom corner of the door and frame chiselled and sanded back where they had been catching, restoring clean operation.
- Frame. Primed and finished in white Zinsser Allcoat Exterior satin.
- Door. Prepared with tinted exterior primer/undercoat, then finished in ‘The Drink’ by COAT exterior eggshell.
- Site management. Work staged around residents’ access and the weather, kept tidy throughout.
The Result
The finished door is clean, smart and welcoming. The new paintwork is properly bonded to the prepared substrate, protecting the timber against the Scottish weather for years to come and giving the building entrance a considered finish in keeping with its red sandstone surround.
Project Gallery
“Your painter did a wonderful job preparing and painting the main stair door to our building. His work, I would say, is of a high professional standard, as was the work done for me by you a few years ago.”
