The Challenge
This project involved more than just painting. Key challenges included working at height (requiring scaffolding), coordinating fixed dates around the scaffold installation, and working carefully around existing features such as the metal mesh fixed to the apex. Ensuring thorough preparation throughout was essential for a finish that would last.
Our Approach
1. Preparation of woodwork
All loose and flaking paint was removed. Cracks and holes were raked out, filled, and sanded to create a solid surface. All areas were cleaned and any bare wood was primed.
2. Detailed areas
We worked carefully around the apex woodwork where a metal mesh was fixed in place, preparing and painting as much as access allowed without removing it.
3. Painting the woodwork
Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Gloss was applied to all prepared surfaces, including dormer woodwork, apex fascia, soffits, and trims.
4. Ironwork restoration (rear of property)
The cast iron guttering was wire brushed, sanded, spot primed, and finished with black Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Gloss for durability.
5. Organisation throughout
We coordinated closely with the scaffolding schedule and kept the site tidy throughout the project.
The Result
The finished property has a clean, sharp appearance in keeping with its Victorian character. The woodwork is fully protected from the elements, professionally finished, and properly defined.
