Royal Terrace, Edinburgh
Key Challenge
Redecorating after water damage in a historic Georgian property, with freshly plastered patches requiring careful preparation
The Challenge
One of Edinburgh’s most iconic addresses — Royal Terrace, a grand sweep of Georgian townhouses overlooking Regent Gardens. The kitchen in this historic property had been affected by water ingress, a common challenge in older buildings, leaving surfaces uneven and in need of real attention before any decorating could begin.
Repairs to gutters and a cracked wall had been completed, and fresh plasterwork had been applied where electrical work had taken place. The surfaces needed filling, sanding, and careful preparation to ensure the new paint would sit evenly and look seamless. The client wanted the result to feel calm, refined, and in keeping with the character of the property.
Our Approach
Surface Preparation
Freshly plastered patches were filled and sanded back to a smooth, even surface. All uneven areas from previous repairs were addressed carefully to create a consistent base before any paint was applied.
Ceiling
The ceiling was painted in crisp white — a clean, neutral backdrop that lifts the room and complements the softness of the wall colour.
Walls — Farrow & Ball Tailor Tack
The client chose Farrow & Ball’s Tailor Tack for the walls — a soft, delicate pink that brings warmth and elegance to the kitchen while keeping it feeling light and airy. The colour respects the heritage character of the building while introducing a refined, contemporary feel.
Every detail was handled with care to work sensitively in this period setting, restoring beauty without compromising the property’s character.
The Result
A kitchen that feels calm, refined, and full of natural light — the soft Tailor Tack walls and crisp white ceiling working together to give this Georgian kitchen a fresh elegance that’s fully in keeping with its Royal Terrace address.
