Key Challenge
Full interior finish on new plaster and unpainted woodwork throughout a newly converted coach house
The Challenge
The Grange is one of Edinburgh’s most desirable areas — known for its grand villas, leafy streets, and proximity to the Meadows and Blackford Hill. Tucked away on a quiet lane, this newly converted Coach House blends the charm of its historic structure with a fresh, modern interior.
With new plaster throughout, brand-new unpainted woodwork, and exposed timber elements set aside for future staining, preparation was as important as the painting itself. The client expected a premium finish using Farrow & Ball paint throughout. The goal: crisp, elegant, and consistent across both floors — with every surface properly prepped to ensure lasting results.
Our Approach
Surface Preparation
All newly plastered walls were assessed, filled where needed, and sanded smooth before painting began. A mist coat was applied to seal the new plaster and ensure even paint absorption — a critical step that prevents patchiness in the finished topcoats.
Timber Protection
Exposed timber elements set aside for future staining were carefully masked and covered throughout. No bleed, no overspray — the wood was protected so the staining work could proceed exactly as planned.
New Woodwork
All brand-new woodwork was prepared, primed, and painted to a clean, consistent finish ready to complement the walls.
Premium Finish — Farrow & Ball All White
Farrow & Ball’s All White was used throughout — a clean, elegant choice that brings out the architectural charm of the conversion while keeping the interior feeling bright and contemporary. Applied across both floors for a cohesive result.
The Result
The finished interior is crisp, bright, and beautifully consistent across both floors. The careful preparation means the finish will hold — no patchy walls, no peeling, no uneven absorption. A newly converted Coach House that feels every bit as refined as The Grange address it calls home.
