Project Showcase: Custom IKEA Kitchen Cabinet Transformation
Project Overview
At Bert’s Painting & Decorating, we recently completed a unique project that showcases our ability to customize and elevate standard IKEA kitchen cabinets. Our client had invested in a brand new IKEA kitchen but desired a light blue finish instead of the standardly available options. This project perfectly demonstrates our capacity to blend mass-produced furniture with bespoke finishes.
Our Process:
1. Collection: Our furniture painting expert collected all doors and drawer fronts from the client’s home, minimizing on-site disruption.
2. Preparation: In our workshop, we:
– Sanded down all surfaces
– Applied adhesion primer to both sides of cabinet doors and drawer fronts
– Abraded with very fine abrasive
– Meticulously dusted and degreased all surfaces
3. Painting: We applied Tikkurila Helmi 10, a high-quality furniture topcoat, to achieve the desired light blue finish.
4. Protection: To ensure longevity and durability, we sprayed a 2-component satin water-based lacquer. This final step protects the surfaces from impacts, grease, and chemicals, making the cabinets resistant to daily kitchen wear and tear.

6. Assembly and Touch-ups: Once the furniture was assembled, our team carefully touched up the surrounding walls to address any minor damages that may have occurred during the installation process. This final step ensured a flawless finish for the entire kitchen space.
The result is a stunning, personalized kitchen that combines the practicality of IKEA’s design with a custom colour scheme. This project highlights our ability to transform standard products into bespoke pieces, offering our clients the best of both worlds – affordable quality with a personalized touch.
