Custom IKEA Kitchen Cabinet Refinish – Edinburgh

We recently helped a client personalise their brand-new IKEA kitchen by repainting all the doors, drawer fronts, and cabinet sides in a bespoke light blue finish—giving standard cabinetry a custom, high-end look.

The Brief
While IKEA kitchens offer practicality and smart design, the client wanted a softer, more individual colour than the standard range could provide. Our job was to transform these off-the-shelf units into something truly unique.

Our Process

Offsite Finishing

  • We collected all doors and drawer fronts to minimise disruption

  • In our workshop, we:

    • Sanded and primed both sides

    • Smoothed with a fine abrasive

    • Dusted and degreased every surface for a clean base

Paint and Protection

  • Applied Tikkurila Helmi 10 in the client’s chosen light blue

  • Sprayed a 2-component satin water-based lacquer over the top for added durability—resistant to knocks, stains, and grease

On-Site Cabinet Side Painting
To complete the look, we hand-painted the fixed cabinet sides in the same colour using the same careful process.

Final Touches
Once the kitchen was assembled, we handled any wall touch-ups needed from installation to leave the space looking flawless.

The Result
The finished kitchen perfectly blends IKEA’s smart design with a custom colour and high-spec finish. It’s a great example of how standard units can be elevated into something bespoke and personal.
