Project Showcase: West End Kitchen Transformation – Blending Colour, Craft, and Character
In the heart of Edinburgh’s West End, we recently tackled a kitchen redecoration in a beautiful Georgian property. This project brought together a mix of technical challenges and design choices—all within a historic setting.
High Ceilings, High Standards
The kitchen’s soaring 4-metre ceilings made access difficult. With standard ladders out of the question, we used internal scaffolding to safely reach and paint the ceiling and cornice.
Colour That Connects
The client had installed bold Sapphire Salute Blue kitchen units. To complement them and balance out the existing Deluxe Florentine Red walls, we recommended Farrow & Ball’s Ammonite—a subtle natural beige that pulled the space together without overpowering it.
Preserving Historic Details
To protect the original Georgian cornice, we used a spray-painting technique. This allowed us to apply a clean, even coat of white paint that brightened the room without obscuring any of the delicate mouldings.
The Result
-
The soft Ammonite walls now frame the striking blue units beautifully
-
The crisp white ceiling and cornice lift the whole room, making it feel open and fresh
-
Most importantly, the intricate period detailing was preserved and highlighted—not lost under layers of paint
Happy Clients, Historic Charm
The client was thrilled—not just with the finish, but with how we navigated the challenges with care and creativity. It’s a space that now feels both modern and rooted in its architectural heritage.
