Aligning a large-scale continuous mural wallpaper perfectly — with no margin for error
The Challenge
A new-build terraced property in Gracemount — a completely blank white canvas. The client wanted to move away from the builder’s standard finish and create a bedroom with real warmth and character, centred on a large-scale mural wallpaper as the focal point.
The mural was the critical element: one continuous design across multiple panels, meaning every section had to align perfectly. There was no room for error — a misaligned seam would ruin the entire effect. Careful planning and exact positioning before the first panel went up were essential.
Our Approach
Preparation
Full preparation of walls and ceiling — cleaning all surfaces, filling and sanding cracks and holes to create a smooth, even base for both paint and wallpaper.
Ceiling and Wall Painting
Ceiling finished in Johnstone’s Covaplus Matt (white) for a clean, bright result. Walls painted in two complementary COAT Paints colours:
Voicenotes — two walls
Mr. Clifton — the window wall
Mural Installation
Careful measuring and layout planning for the full mural dimensions (H: 2.47m, L: 4.129m). Each panel positioned precisely before application, working slowly and methodically to maintain perfect alignment across the full width. The result: a seamless, gallery-quality installation with no visible seams.
Woodwork
Skirting, door frame, wardrobe frame, and window sill all sanded, filled, primed with adhesion primer, and finished in Zinsser Allcoat Water-Based Gloss (white) for a crisp, durable result.
The Result
The room has been completely transformed — from a plain white new-build box to a calming, nature-inspired bedroom with a genuine sense of character. The mural creates depth and atmosphere, and the COAT Paints colours sit alongside it in perfect harmony.
A space that now feels peaceful, considered, and full of personality.
