Elegant Kitchen Refresh – Historic Royal Terrace, Edinburgh
Royal Terrace is one of Edinburgh’s most prestigious streets—set just above London Road, overlooking Regent Gardens, and steps from Calton Hill. Known for its sweeping Georgian townhouses and listed façades, it’s a location where architectural detail and heritage matter.
Our client’s kitchen, located in one of these grand period homes, had recently undergone essential repairs after water damage. They brought us in to help restore the space—aiming for something fresh, light, and in keeping with the building’s historic character.
Using a soft, warm colour palette and a careful hand with the walls and ceiling, we transformed the kitchen into a space that feels bright, elegant, and quietly timeless. It’s a subtle refresh that respects the past while making the home feel lived-in and welcoming once again.
Challenges & Preparation
Following repairs to gutters and a cracked wall, we were brought in to address the visual impact:
-
Freshly plastered patches from recent electrical work
-
Uneven surfaces from earlier repairs
Our team carefully filled, sanded, and prepared the ceiling and walls to ensure a smooth, seamless base for painting.
Soft, Sophisticated Palette
The client chose Farrow & Ball’s Tailor Tack—a soft, delicate pink—for the walls, paired with crisp white on the ceiling. The result is a kitchen that feels calm, refined, and full of natural light, while still in keeping with the property’s historic character.
A Seamless Finish in a Period Setting
Every detail was handled with care to respect the building’s heritage. The transformation highlights our ability to work sensitively in period homes, restoring beauty without compromising character.
