Project Showcase: Cottage Furniture Transformation

Project Overview

At Bert’s Painting & Decorating, we recently completed a charming project that breathed new life into a set of 40-year-old wooden furniture for a cozy cottage setting. Our client approached us with a vision to update their well-loved kitchen set, including chairs, tables, and a sideboard, to match the existing wooden wall panelling in their dining area.

The Challenge:
While the furniture was structurally sound, four decades of use had left their mark on the existing transparent varnish. Our task was to rejuvenate these pieces while maintaining their character and ensuring they complemented the cottage’s interior.

Our Approach:
1. Preparation: We carefully cleaned and lightly sanded the furniture to create an ideal surface for painting.

2. Colour Matching: We used Tikkurila Everal Aqua 40 paint in Farrow & Ball’s Ammonite colour to perfectly match the wooden wall panelling in the dining area. This high-quality paint ensures durability and a beautiful finish, while the sophisticated light grey hue creates a cohesive look throughout the space.

3. Custom Finishing: For the tabletops and sideboard surface, we applied a white wood stain to create a beautiful contrast. These areas were then protected with a clear varnish for durability.

4. Detailed Application: Our team meticulously applied the paint and finishes, ensuring even coverage and a smooth, professional look.

The Result:
The transformation is stunning. The light grey Ammonite color on the furniture bodies creates a soft, elegant look that perfectly complements the cottage interior. The white-stained and varnished tops add a touch of contrast and practicality, making the pieces both beautiful and functional.
